Academic Decathlon

Inspiring Young Minds

Embracing A Challenge: EDUCATE. MOTIVATE. INSPIRE.

As Catholic school educators, we affirm that God has endowed each young person entrusted to our care with marvelous intellectual gifts and talents. The California Catholic Schools’ Academic Junior High Decathlon (or AJHD) strives to bring forth some of those academic talents and celebrate them in the context of spirit-filled competition.

The five goals of the Academic Decathlon Program are:

  1. To Promote academic excellence

  2. To promote collaborative spirit and cooperative learning skills

  3. To promote logical and higher order thinking

  4. To recognize the contribution of parents, teachers, school administrators, business and community members in supporting high standards for all students

  5. To celebrate diversity, excellence, and tradition of Catholic schools

Program Overview

The Academic Junior High Decathlon is an academic competition designed for Catholic
students in grades 6-8. Ten total events take place within the one-day competition. Two of the events are collaborative

Team efforts include the 8,000 points Logic Quiz and the 8,000 points Super Quiz. The other eight events are individual events that are each worth 1,000 points including Religion, English and Spelling, Literature, Science, Mathematics, Current Events, Social Studies, and Fine Arts (Art and or Music). The ten members of the team work together on both the Logic Quiz and the Super Quiz. Eight team members also take individual tests and two team members selected as the 'Members at Large' (a.k.a. alternates) compete in the team events only

Participants in the program including parents, siblings, coaches, and team members often
remark that this experience not only celebrates Catholic education, but it is also life changing.
This program encourages one to put what they want to get out of it, the more they get out of the program

We encourage all our Junior High students to take a look and try this once in a lifetime
experience.
